I just purchased this machine and have yet to see or use it. The last piece of equipment I purchased was the cheaper mixmaster software witha cheap ION mixer. The software works great if your taking requests in a bar and spinning music you don’t like, the crowd doesn’t know as the mixmsiester works good for this, althoug it makes headphones useless. For 10 years I’ve been using vinyl and CD mixing. I’ve got an array of music I work with, mainly D&B and industrial. I was looking for a mixer that along with my cpu, software, other mixer a cd decks, along with external effexts proccessor and midi synth, this looks promising. I used to be in an industrial band and have spun both in Drum and Bass and Industrial environments. I’m a laid of tool-maker and am not prepared to replace my old studio. I have software effext programs I can now use to the new set-up. If you ad this to a Kork mini-effects proccessor, MIDI synth, software, and the ability to actually headphone cure, I can set up, and chop up even Neil Diamond into my mixes. I’m more into the production end of it and have built a fairly nice home system that I can do alomost everything I want. Note: I’m still waiting to by a bass synth and dat equipment. I’ve been building variouse systems/studio’s for other people a long time. I’ve even tought some major producers, dj’s, bands, how to use some of there own equipment. I do a lot of looping, mixing, and adding in my own original stuff. I can even make cd “dub-plates” or vinyl which I can say is my own. I know it’s a cheap piece of gear after the ten’s of thousands I’ve put into previouse set-ups, this is a great add on, even if I wanted to make my own industrial/drum and bass on my own. (See DJ Acucrack, or Acumen nation, which I new the guy well when I lived in the city. To this day I’m pround of messing in TKK’s studio and teaching them how to program some synth’s they were only using as triggers.
For those that are looking only to do one thing with this piece of gear I can see where the problems may occur, however if you use it in a custom built mini-studio this is a great addition. It will be fed through my large mixer, and eventually a new dat recorder.
I got sick of just mixing others tracks. Now I just use them in my own, although there are some tracks you just need to leave alone.
I recommend this to anyone building a system. I’ll probably use this one for onloy a few months as I save for a larger unit with more knobs and buttons, however when I feed this through my korg’s synth and proccessor, not including my software, it’s a one man band, or DJ live!
If you are a fan of Orbital or Aphex Twin, this is how they started. I’d like to create a new mix of D&B and modern industrial all for my own. Not like Acucrack, but my own scene.
Overall, even though I have yet to have it in my hands. (I have used it outside of homes) This machine offers a lot. As long as you have everything else to increase it’s value. If your a stand alone DJ that just wants to play others tracks, and not make it your own, maybe cough up a few more dollars. If your creative, just keep adding the little things that let you make your own sound. Anyone can mix others music, which when I was in the old Rave scene in Chicago was cool, make your own music, and let the other tracks just help you out. I even picked out a bass synth, which will let me make my own loops, rather than relying on someone else’s work. Of course we will all plagarise a bit of others work, at least you may keep your name on your new mix and keep the dancefloor hopping. As a previouse dancer, I remember all the times I’d stop, look at the DJ, and say wow, he’s got 4 decks and is using a bit from every one of them, making his own DJ mix.
Be free, and create what you love. Money can’t make you the best DJ out there, it’s when you get into producing your own mixes, then playing them along with others, is when you get recongnized. Look at Ed Rush and Optical, or any of Front Line Assemblies projects, (about 8 I can think of)
Have fun, don’t go broke.

Bad news: The software is old and outdated. It will not work propperly with anything other than windows xp. I called to see if there was an update (there wasn’t). I was told I could buy the main software (the one for real D.J.s) for $300. It was also meant to work with vista (not very well I am afraid)and don’t even think to try it on windows 7.
The good news is the M-audio pad is universal and will work with any software. You just have to find it.
